14. THESIS

14.1
A scholar has to submit a thesis based on original research work.  Plagiarism Test Report will be conducted on thesis before its submission to the Internal, External Evaluators within country
14.2.

The MS/MPhil scholar shall be given a choice during his/her MS/MPhil synopsis defence either to opt for article publication or deliver seminar.
Article Publication:
a. Synopsis/Proposal defence and final thesis defence shall be compulsory for the scholar along with the article publication.
b. The scholar has to submit one research paper from thesis, which may be published in any category (W, X, Y) of HEC recognized Research Journals or Fulfil following criteria:
(I) For Local/National Journal:
(a) The Research Journal shall be at least single blind per review journal.
(b) The Research Journal shall have International Editorial Board with at least two members from technologically/academically/industrially advanced Country.
(II) For International Journal:
(a) The Research Journal shall have online archive.
(b) The Research Journal shall be at least single blind peer review journal.
(c) The Research Journal shall have International Editorial Board with at least two members from technologically/academically/industrially advanced Country.
(d) The Research Journal shall be indexed/abstracted by a reputed Agency/database with coverage of 1000 journals except Google scholar & citeceer.
Seminar Delivery:
a. Synopsis/Proposal defence and final thesis defence shall be compulsory for the scholar.
b. Scholar shall appear in two progress seminars before submission of thesis.
c. Dean Faculty shall approve/notify the date, time, and venue for seminar delivery except final defence which shall be notified by the Graduate Studies Office on the recommendation of Dean Faculty.
d. Candidate shall deliver his/her synopsis/proposal defence before DAC. However, final thesis defence shall be presided by the Dean Faculty

14.3
The scholar shall submit four copies of thesis to the Research Supervisor type set as per university thesis report guidelines
14.4

On completion of the research study, the candidate shall submit thesis to the DAC through the Supervisor, along with the evidence of completion of all pre-requisites that include:
i.   A certificate from the Controller of Examinations stating the completion of course work credits with CGPA.
ii. Copy of published research paper or letter of acceptance (verified by QAAD) or certificate of delivery of two seminars duly signed by research supervisor chairperson and Dean Faculty.
iii. Certificate from GSO indicating completion of students’ file.
iv. Fee receipts of all paid dues.

i)
A certificate from the Controller of Examinations stating the completion of course work credits with CGPA.
ii)
Copy of research paper with letter of acceptance or certificate of delivery of two seminars duly signed by research supervisor chairperson and Dean Faculty.
iii)
Certificate from Registrar/GSO indicating completion of students' file.
iv)
Fee receipts of all paid dues
14.5
The thesis shall include a signed certificate by the candidate that he/she has prepared and written thesis himself/herself and that this thesis has not been submitted at any other University. The certificate will be counter signed by the Research Supervisor.
14.6
All the Head of Departments shall submit pool of relevant External Examiners other than UOB, approved by the DAC of each department. Examiners shall possess PhD/Equivalent degree from HEC recognized university/institutes in the relevant area of research. All PhD/Equivalent faculty members of UOB shall submit the names of examiners to their Chairpersons which shall subsequently be placed in DAC and AS&RB for approval.
14.7
The supervisor shall suggest three (3) names of External Examiners (out of Quetta) for thesis evaluation and three (3) names of External Examiners (within Quetta) for the conduct of viva voce from the already approved list from AS&RB in a sealed envelope to the GSO along with the thesis for onward transmission to the External and Internal examiners. The Vice Chancellor will nominate one external examiner for thesis and one examiner for viva voce from the panel of examiners.

14.8

 

External and Internal evaluation for MS/MPhil thesis can be done through both hard & soft copy (PDF) on the prescribed evaluation Performa. The GSO shall send a reminder to the external evaluator after one month to the maximum of 4 months.
14.9
The Dean Faculty after completing necessary formalities shall send four hard copies of the thesis and a soft copy of thesis in PDF format to the GSO who shall forward copies of the thesis to examiners for evaluation. For sending soft copy of thesis only institutional email address shall be acceptable. After receiving the evaluation reports, the GSO shall open the evaluation report in presence of Dean Faculty. A letter shall be issued by the GSO to the concerned Head of Department for incorporating comments/suggestions/objections in the thesis.

14.10

 

The response to the remarks of the External Evaluators and copy of the modified thesis with the recommendations of the Research Supervisor duly verified by the HOD & Dean Faculty shall be submitted to the GSO within two months for approval
14.11
After approval from the competent authority, the GSO shall arrange an oral examination with the consultation of the Research Supervisor, Chairperson/Director, and Dean Faculty. The Oral examination shall be conducted in the presence of the Research Supervisor, DAC of the department, Chairman GSO or his nominee, and Dean Faculty. The External Examiner to conduct the Viva Voce shall be from Quetta having PhD and Academic or Research affiliation. GSO shall send a soft copy of thesis to examiner at least one week before the conduct of Viva. A remuneration of Rs. 5000 shall be paid to both examiners i.e., Thesis evaluator and Viva Voce evaluator respectively. The Examiner to conduct Viva Voce and Supervisor will furnish a collective report on the thesis along with marks obtained for 06 credit hours in research out of 200 marks for the thesis. The viva report shall be submitted to the GSO no later than two weeks
14.12
In case the External Examiner proposes the revision of the whole or a part of the thesis with the condition of re-submission of the revised thesis with the recommendation of degree, the revised thesis shall be re-submitted to the respective External Examiner following the same procedure defined for submission of thesis in six months
14.13
In case, the External Examiner proposes some minor revision without the condition of re-submission of thesis and recommend the award of the degree, the scholar will incorporate all the changes and submit a minor correction proforma duly signed by supervisor, HOD and Dean Faculty to GSO. After approval from the Vice Chancellor Viva Voce of the scholar will be arranged.
14.14
In case, the External Examiner does not recommend award of the degree, the Advance Studies & Research Board shall decide to send thesis to second examiner.
14.15

In case, the second External Examiners does not recommend award of the degree, the thesis will be rejected along with the cancellation of registration/admission of the candidate.

14.16

If a scholar fails to defend his/her thesis in the oral examination the second attempt, shall be allowed in accordance with the prescribed procedure.

14.17

If a scholar fails to defend his/her thesis in the oral examination in the second attempt, his/her registration/admission shall stand cancelled.

14.18
After the conduct of viva voce examination by the committee the GSO shall get approval from the competent authority. Subsequently, list of all the successful candidates shall be placed before AS&RB for the award of degree
14.19
Decision for the award of MS/MPhil degree shall be communicated to the Controller of Examinations, who will issue the provisional certificate subject to the provision of clearance certificate by the scholar from the GSO
14.20
Syndicate will approve the award of degree in routine as per university rules.
